The Friday Night SUP in Leiden has been around since 2011! As one of the very first in the Netherlands, we started the first Friday Night SUP tours in Leiden back then. Thanks to the enormous growth in popularity of SUPing in our country, we nowadays see SUP initiatives and Friday Night SUPs flourishing in almost all major cities, and not many people are surprised by SUPers in the city anymore.
We organize the Friday Night SUPs in Leiden almost every Friday evening in spring, summer, and autumn, depending on the weather. Because of the popularity of the Friday Night SUP, we have also added the Wednesday Night SUP Leiden on Wednesdays.
On these Wednesday and Friday evenings, we always gather at 7:00 PM at the outdoor area on the water near our office at Amphoraweg 10 in Leiden. This starting location is perfect for our city tours through the canals and is located just outside the center of Leiden on wide, calm water. After a short SUP instruction, we take a 1.5-hour SUP tour through the beautiful historic city center of Leiden from here, with groups of sometimes more than 20 participants.
Beginners are certainly very welcome too. The flat water of the Leiden canals is exactly ideal to quietly try out this sport for the first time. Every Wednesday/Friday Night SUP starts with a short SUP instruction consisting of a simple explanation about standing up, posture, and paddling on the board.
You also learn how to SUP under bridges and keep your balance when boats or other vessels sail past you. Anyone can learn to SUP, so we guarantee that after this instruction you can paddle along independently and full of confidence on your board during our tour through Leiden! Should you still be in doubt, there is of course also the option of a private lesson or an introductory lesson!
You can of course also join the Wednesday or Friday Night SUP with your own board. If you are joining us for the first time or if you still need instruction, we ask for a contribution of 10 Euros per person. If you join more often with your own gear, you can SUP along for free, but we do like to hear from you prior to the event so we know how many people to expect that evening!
